This course provides an introduction to
anatomy and physiology. There are sections on the skin, the skeletal
system, the muscles, the circulatory system, the respiratory and
olfactory systems, the nervous system, the endocrine system, the
digestive system, the reproductive system, and the urinary system. Your
knowledge will be tested by a 140-question open-book quiz.
The course is aimed at therapists and
others who do not require a certificate approved by one of the major
therapy bodies, but who, because of their interest in health or their
practice of a therapy that does not require study of anatomy and
physiology, would like some proof that they have studied the subject.
For example, people helping those with illnesses may be Reiki or healing
practitioners, EFT or TFT practitioners, flower essence or Bach flower
practitioners, dowsers, counsellors or hypnotherapists, and NLP
practitioners – none of those disciplines requires any qualification in
anatomy or physiology at all for practice, and many practitioners who
never received an education in those areas now feel the need to fill
that gap in their knowledge and demonstrate that they have done so with
The course is also useful background for practitioners of
massage, etc. in countries where a practice has been established but the
practitioner did not need to have an anatomy/physiology qualification,
and would now like one.
criteria and suitability
particular qualifications are required for
entry, but a strong interest in healing and/or
complementary therapies is expected.
This course is mainly for therapists in
non-physical disciplines, "energy therapies",
intuitive practitioners, etc. who wish to fill
in a gap in their knowledge or demonstrate their
familiarity with the subject matter.
Successful graduates will receive the Certificate
in Anatomy and Physiology awarded by UK College of Holistic Training which is a private UK
qualification. The college is accredited by the International Association for
Distance Learning. Course graduates may use the postnominal designation
Please note that this is a theory course only and
it does not lead to a qualification to practise
any form of complementary medicine. This course
is not assessed at Level 2 or 3; it is
an independent course.
Although the unit uses a textbook designed
for the VTCT or other national examinations, this course is not approved by VTCT or by the
author of the course textbook. (The VTCT is the Vocational Training Charitable
Trust, a UK examining body.) Passing this course will not give
exemption from any VTCT exam and a pass in this course is not
transferrable to any other school or college. However it may help you
to increase your confidence if you are thinking of attending a school
offering classes for VTCT or similar holistic therapy exams, because you will have
some familiarity with the subject matter and the way it is presented.
